Billing rules: Understanding days/nights after move out
Last updated: April 14, 2026
Overview
When a resident's booking is closed — for reasons such as a transfer or discharge — Found can calculates the subscription end date by adding the configured number of days/nights to the move-out (closure) date. Invoices continue to be generated up to and including that end date. No invoices are generated after that date.
The days/nights after move out setting is part of the billing rules on a billing contract template. When a booking is closed excluding if the reason "Deceased", Found can automatically extends the billing subscription by the configured number of days or nights, ensuring that final invoices are raised correctly before the billing period closes.
How it works
A billing contract template is created with billing rules configured, including the number of days or nights after move out to invoice.
When a booking is ended excluding if the reason "Deceased", Found will calculate the subscription end date by adding the configured number of days or nights to the closure date.
Invoices continue to be generated up to that extended end date.
If the value is set to zero, billing stops on the date of death with no extension.
Where to configure it
The days/nights after move out value is set during the billing rules step when creating or editing a billing contract template. The field label reads:
"How many days/nights after move out should be invoiced?"
The field accepts any non-negative whole number (0 or above).
Frequently asked questions
Q: Where do I configure days after move out?
A: The setting is configured in the billing rules step when creating a new billing contract. It is a required field and must be set before the contract can be saved.
Q: What is the minimum value I can enter?
A: The minimum value is 0. Setting it to 0 means invoicing stops on the same day the resident moves out — no additional days are invoiced.
Q: Does this setting also apply when a resident passes away?
A: No. Deaths are handled by a separate setting called days after death. The days after move out setting applies to all other booking closure reasons, such as transfers and discharges.
Q: What happens if the value is not set?
A: If the value is not configured, Found defaults to 0 days and billing stops on the move-out date.
Q: Can different contracts for the same resident have different values?
A: Yes. The days after move out value is set per billing contract. A resident with multiple funding arrangements can have different rules applying to each contract.
Q: Does the billing calculation basis (day-based vs night-based) affect this setting?
A: The billing calculation basis determines how Found counts units for the main billing period. The days after move out setting always adds calendar days to the closure date regardless of the basis.
