Enabling contacts as funders (billing module access)
Last updated: May 4, 2026
Overview
In Found, a funder is a contact or organisation that financially contributes to a resident's care costs. This allows you to record, manage, and invoice multiple funding sources against a booking. Once a contact is enabled as a funder, they can be linked to bookings
How to navigate to funders
Once enabled, funders are accessible from the main navigation under Operations > Funders.
Enabling a contact as a funder
You can create a funder directly from a booking's contacts tab:
Open a booking and navigate to the Contacts tab.
Find the contact you want to enable as a funder.
Select Add as funder from the actions menu next to their name.
In the dialog that appears, either select an existing funder record or create a new one for that contact.
You can optionally assign a reference number if you rely on your own internal ID structure. If left blank, Found will automatically generate a system reference FUN ID.
Save to link the funder to the booking.
Once created, the contact will display a funder badge showing their funder sequence ID and reference number (where set) on the booking contacts tab.
Funders and organisations
If your workspace has the organisation funders tab enabled, you can also view all funders associated with a specific organisation from the Funders tab on the organisation's detail page.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What is the difference between a contact and a funder? A: A contact is any person or organisation recorded in Found. A funder is a contact or organisation that has been explicitly set up to contribute financially to a resident's care — they can be invoiced and linked to billing contracts. Not all contacts are funders; a contact becomes a funder only when you create a funder record for them.
Q: Can an organisation be a funder, or only individual contacts? A: Both individual contacts and organisations can be set up as funders. For example, a local authority would typically be set up as an organisation funder, while a family member paying privately would be set up as a contact funder.
Q: How do I get access to the funders feature? A: The funders feature is part of the Pro billing module.
Q: Can a booking have more than one funder? A: Yes. Multiple funders can be linked to a single booking, which supports split-funding scenarios such as a combination of local authority and private funding.
Q: Can I export funders to my accounting system? A: Yes. From the funders list (Operations > Funders), there is an export option that supports accounting exports including Sage 50 and Xero.
Q: What permissions do I need to create a contact funder? A: You need the create contact funder permission. If the "Add as funder" action is not visible on a booking's contacts tab, you may not have this permission. Contact your workspace administrator to review your access.
Q: Can I search for funders? A: Yes. The funders list supports search by contact name or organisation name, and can be filtered by booking, contact, organisation, or funder type.
